UK Libraries well represented at IFLA World Library and Information Congress

UK Libraries was well represented at the recent International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress in Columbus. In addition to hosting a very successful IFLA News Media Satellite Session and post Bluegrass Library Tour, UK Libraries faculty and staff participated in business meetings in various IFLA sections and events.

Stacey Greenwell participated as a committee member in the Section on Education and Training. Jennifer Bartlett presented a poster on behalf of the UK Libraries International Working Group, “Stamping the Passport: University of Kentucky Libraries as a Partner for Internationalization on Campus.” She also served as discussion leader for “Continuous Learning in Libraries & Their Communities” at the Knowledge Café. Bartlett is a member of the Knowledge Management Section that sponsored the discussion.

Kopana Terry participated in meetings for the News Media Section, and is involved with the international planning committee for the April 2017 conference in Reykjavik, Iceland, and the next World Congress in Wroclaw, Poland in August 2017.

Eric Weig presented his upcoming article “Archiving HTML-Based Newspapers Using XML and CDATA Strings” at the News Media Satellite Session held in Lexington before the conference. The article outlines one in-house model for archiving and providing access to HTML-based news in the Kentucky Digital Newspaper Program at UK.
