Open House for Special Collections Research Center on first day of UK classes


On Wednesday, August 27, students took a break from the first day of classes to enjoy an open house at the Special Collections Research Center in Margaret I. King Library. The open house included an exhibit of “then and now” photos of locations in Lexington, as well as ice cream and popsicles. More on the exhibit is available online.

Subway Café comes to Science Library


The new Subway Café is open in the Science Library. Offering breakfast items like muffins and pastries, in addition to the usual Subway fare, the café is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The space is designed to facilitate studying and lounging between classes, with ample seating and a relaxed environment.

UK Libraries faculty Beth Fuchs and Valerie Perry joined me last Saturday in representing UK Libraries at this year’s New Student Induction Ceremony in Memorial Coliseum.  The event, attended by incoming students and their families includes talks by a student representative from the sophomore class, the President of SGA, and  President Capilouto with Provost Riordan performing the official induction.

A reception was held to say farewell to Director of Development Greg Casey, on Thursday, August 28. Greg will be Director of Development for the UK Gatton College of Business and Economics. Best wishes to Greg.

Farewell reception for Stephen Sizemore, September 4

A reception to say farewell to Stephen Sizemore, UK Libraries Finance and Administration, will be Thursday, September 4, at 9 a.m. in the Alumni Gallery of William T. Young Library. Refreshments will be provided. Stephen will become Chief Financial Officer for the UK College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment.
